beautifully written. a male author inventing two unforgettable female characters is unusual but bennett manages it wonderfully. this is the only novel i know of that takes the reader through the events of the siege of? paris. the part involving the eating of the zoo animals fascinated me. highly recommended.thank you for posting this classic.
