Well, most English are of Germanic stock. The Saxons were a northern Germanic tribe whilst the Angles and Jutes were from Denmark. All are Germanic in nature. The Normans were a mixture of Scandinavian and Frankish plus Gaelo-Roman. Because of the greater amount of Germanic races coming to England to settle, the English generally are German by nature with traces? of other ethnicities in the heritage like celtic or Roman.

Schama is wrong: Godwin was implicated in the blinding of his younger brother @ 7:10 , his younger brother then died shortly after his blinding. blinding was symbolic and intended to render the boy unable to rule, it was not intended to kill him. Edward the confessor was the son of the previous Anglo-Saxon King Aethelred the? Unready

@nuteronstar777 The Glorious Revolution, also called the Revolution of 1688, is the overthrow of King James II of England (James VII of Scotland and James II of Ireland) by a union of English Parliamentarians with the Dutch stadtholder William III of Orange-Nassau (William? of Orange). William's successful invasion of England with a Dutch fleet and army led to his ascending the English throne as William III of England jointly with his wife Mary II of England. HA!

Hi, I changed my username a while ago, but I was mmmzeitgeisty11. Thanks for the history lesson, it's? always good to learn something new. However, i would refer you to my earlier comment (above). I don't know whether you were angry or 'just saying' so I wont get all uppity about it. Anyway, Britain and The Netherlands need to put old troubles behind us so we can get together and produce wind power for the future. The future is more important than the past.
