Big thanks for the comment! Wow, you're good! Yea, I heard from my parents that it's a Chinese dish, but like you said, since I'm? from southern China... Hong Kong... we never had it at home. I'll have to try the Chinese version some time. Korean mapo tofu is good, but I don't eat much spicy food so it's not for me.

Guessing from the spelling of your last name, I'm going to guess your ancestry is, specifically, southern Chinese. Jajjangmyeon is from zhajiangmian, which is a very northern Chinese dish. If I am right about my guess of your ancestry being southern Chinese, it'd explain? why your family didn't make this dish. Also, Korean jajjangmyeon is a bit different than Chinese zhajiangmian. Koreans even have their own adaption of mapo tofu, which looks very interesting, though it looks much different.
