All of this would be fine if Normans and later pro-Norman? historians hadn't marginalized Saxon history pre-1066 and the battles that preceded Hastings. They wanted to paint a picture of a more modern society defeating a weaker less advanced one but the reality is the Normans fought an army not at full strength many having come from another hard battle and yet that army stood off the "modern" army all day despite that. 1066 needs to be taught in more detail in school

This is in fact not true. The German Empire was more than very interested in Imperialist expansion, they just didn't have the proper conditions or means for the kind of intercontinental empire that? the British did. There is little access to the sea from Germany, and indeed Germany never did raise a great fleet, always being bested by France and England in naval power. Also in the waning years of the Danish Kingdom, we hindered most German opportunities to establish a greater naval force.

The Normans are Roman just as the Anglo-Saxons are if not less... The only reason why the Normans were, to some extent, more influenced by the (already dissolved) Roman empire is that they were geographically tied to the Catholic church (largely through Francia) which has its roots in Roman culture. However, The governance the Normans had over England didn't resemble the Roman rule. The Roman Empire was a? centralized federation, whereas The English Kingdom, a decentralized Feudalism.

i'mof bi racial man who has descendants from the anglo saxons..........however i truly believe that england wouldn't had become an empire....had there would not had been of some norman(roman) influence. notice germany made no claims of expedition during the days? of exploration......their only interest was east towards russia. even scandanavians tried but failed. the only ones interested in new land were the countries who didn't have much ..(smaller countries) so thank the normans

Brilliant! Great upload Order , thanks. William just held Harold to his word and got more than he? bargained for, literally. One wonders what Britain would have become if the Saxons had ruled to this day...Probably never have become an empire, more like Iceland and the Scandinavian countries perhaps? Prob no USA or Canada either
