Off the top of my head, yes it would make the clause independent, but the resulting sentence wouldn't make sense. For example, "Because he was hungry, he ate the muffin." Removing the conjunction: "He was hungry, he ate? the muffin." A good link I found about conjunctions and clauses can be found in the description.

If you abolished the conjunctions from your clauses that would make them independent wouldn't they? Or? is that not necessarily always the case?
