Company halted from selling acai berry supplements The maker of acai berry weight loss and colon cleansing supplements has been halted from the sale and marketing of its products. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced an injunction and seizure of the company's assets after reports that $30 million were bilked from clients. Promises of rapid weight loss, cancer prevention and colon cleansing were not materialized and complaints began to form. The company previously offered "free" samples of products with a temporary charge of $65 on the customer's credit card. If the customer was not satisfied, a full refund (less shipping cost) was applied to the credit card. However, consumers were only receiving $50 refunds so complaints were filed with the FTC. Realistically, why anyone would believe that a small berry will increase weight loss is absurd. Weight loss happens when calories are burned by exercise. Cutting back on calorie intake also reduces fat. The quickest way to burn fat is to skip breakfast and do hard cardiovascular exercise like hiking, running, swimming or biking. Then, small meals are eating throughout the day. Lift heavy weights to break down the muscle tissue and avoid eating before bed.
