and when i'm listening to a man reading, I think it's funny when he softens his voice when doing the voice of a female character. as far as female narrators go, I find the higher pitch of a? young woman's voice kind of annoying - and i'm female my self. so does this make me anti-young woman? of course not. again - it's a matter of preference.

you seem to have a misunderstanding of the meaning of? the word "sexist". sexism is a form of harassment of one or the other gender. such as denying some one a job based on their sex. denying them their rights, denying them privileges, etc. some one who would rather hear a narrative read by a man is not necessarily sexist. it's a matter of preference. some may prefer the sound of a male voice; others, a female voice. this is not sexist - it's preference.

To answer your questions, no, I don't think so. I have a? question for you now. Have you ever watched a film dubbed and done in one voice? I have and think it's horrible, whether a man's or a woman's voice is speaking. I wasn't saying that only a man can read a man's voice, but when a novel is primarily dominated by male characters, it only makes sense to use a male voice.

@useahammer: I wasn't evaluating you. I was evaluating your comment.? And I was right. I happen to agree with you that a male voice would better fit my concept of the novel. This woman's pacing is better than the man who reads the other free version available online. But his voice is more compelling. Nevertheless, to assert that only a male can read a male character is, in fact, sexist. Would you say that only men ought to read from the Bible? the Constitution?

She certainly did an excellent narrative. That, sir wasn't the point. I was simply stating my? preference of narrative voice for this particular novel. Thank you for your valued feedback and professional opinion.

With all due respect to the justice of your comment, I listened to this reading, some years back, and, as a? literature teacher, felt that this young woman really did manage to pull it off. At many points I thought she found just the correct emphasis of intonation and inflection to convey the text's inherent meaning.
