He is? a European-the word European begins with a vowel but when you pronounce it, we say "yuropian"-that is we speak as if the word starts with a consonant -y-ie the word starrts with a vowel in spelling but it has a consonant sound. another example --I wonder why you did not ask me that doubt--HOUR. it is an hour ,not a hour-though 'h' is a consonant the sound is a vowel --we pronounce it as "our" h- is silent there .
