Predating this was the slave trade carried out by pirates from the North African coast ..... raiding villages of the South? Coasts of both England and Ireland. It has been estimated that over a period of time approximately 1 million people were taken into slavery. Strange to think that some of their descendants might have also been captured and ended up in the Americas!
