Remember that the Anglo-Saxon period comes AFTER the Beginnings, so of course the first episode of this series doesn't have anything about Anglo-Saxons! The sequence goes like this: Stone Age and Iron Age Celtic Britain --> Roman Invasion in? 55 AD with Romans staying for 500 years ----> Anglo-Saxon invasions from northern Europe, which push the Celts westwards towards Wales and Cornwall -----> Norman Invasion from France in 1066 which then subjugate the Celts and Anglo-Saxons alike

7:35 "what about the dragon slayers? on the mainland" - this after talking about Christianity in Ireland. I was gobsmacked by that - so Britain is Ireland's "mainland" ??!! The arrogance, the presumption, the ignorance. I'm really enjoying the show, but I just had to respond to that ;-) A show like this gives an idea of the origin and artificialness of patriotism as we know it - mine included :p

I agree, especially since the saxons migrated from a region where the romans never? conquered.

So Britain was pretty much Europes' bitch-whore, anybody that stuck their horny helmets up her oozing estuarys got to enjoy her hills and valleys until they got tired of paying the piper. Sounds like one of? my Xes.

This series seems to minimize the Anglo-Saxon period and everything about their culture by painting them? as wanna-be Romans. I question this interpretation of history.
