In this situation "lot" means "guys, fellows or mates". It's an informal way to address people, normally friends. As for Helen, it seems to me she's feeling a bit crabby. She's behaving in? a very childish and selfish way. The thing is that she should be concerned about Michal himself due his? situation, not just about his entirely understandable absence.

It's both her and the cat's periods. They synchronized their cycles several months ago but it hasn't twigged yet. Either that or the cat's possessed, which in some cases is? technically the same thing.
