Wow... A sad tale. I had it figured out near the beginning (Thinking the child had Yellow Fever and survived it, the wife lied about it, since only a child could "Snatched" back from a window? and had a "Yellow Face")

It was even worse in the states where mixed-marriages were illegal. This is one of the most touching Holmes story due to? its anti-racist message.
