Most people spoke cracked English at that time. As in Ebonics, people try their best to? write it the way it was said.The narrator could/should have used more real Ebonics (dialect). The slave woman's dialogue sounded a bit off.

It is "has" - the text is correct, the reader misspoke.? "Now-a-days" is an older way of writing it. "Nowadays" is more modern. Both are correct.

At 22:22? isn't "was" instead of "has??? and it is corect "now-a-days" or "nowadays" or both of them?
