When I collected I had a 1st Canadian Edition of this book. A very? beautiful Title Page. For those of you that find this boring by all means turn on your TV and devolve. Authors of this period used language as tools to paint pictures as an artist would use brush and pallet to create an image. I'll not debate one period over another but know this, authors of this age communicated intellectually. They supposed their audience educated and worldly. The beauty of language is that it evolves. Peace.

I'm guessing the dislikers are people who have to? read this book as part of some school assignment. I don't agree with anyone being compelled to read something they don't want to, but please don't take your ire out on this incredibly good book, unless you've at least read it first.

What a very complex story- Bears listening/ reading more than once.I would love to hear some music with this, maybe some atmospheric sound effects, segues, etc.. I'm confused: I'm familiar with that famous? Rennaissance piece, "Scaramella" (Scaramouche), and his depiction in Commedia dell' Arte, which was quite a bit earlier than the French Revolution.
